Be the Dinosaur (TM) Exhibit Summary

Be the Dinosaur™ is an innovative new traveling exhibit which combines the excitement of inquiry-based exhibit design with the proven appeal of dinosaurs. This is achieved through an integration of traditional physical exhibits and sophisticated computer simulation.

An expert advisory panel from the fields of paleontology and related disciplines ensures high value educational content, while the blend of traditional and innovative design creates a dynamic that has visitors organically absorbing educational goals, immediately applying them in the Be the Dinosaur™ simulation, and repeating the process in a cycle of progressive learning. In this way, visitors are encouraged to individually and collaboratively search for key educational goals in order to maximize their simulation experience.

Why Be the Dinosaur™?

  • Inquiry-Based Learning
  • Interactivity
  • Exciting Subject Matter
  • Innovative Exhibit Concept
  • World class content experts
  • Paleontologist Speaker included
  • Accessibility
  • Turnkey Exhibit Support
  • Teacher and Educational Support
  • Advertising and Sponsorship Support
  • Scaleable Size and Space Requirement
  • Host selectable age-appropriate content
  • FUN!

The truly innovative aspect of Be the Dinosaur™ then, is not in having interactive elements, but rather in the necessary interaction with both traditional and interactive elements to fully experience the exhibit.

Physical components of the exhibit highlight educational goals reflecting the most current available data on dinosaur behavior, food sources, ecology, climate, and geology. These educational goals are embedded in the simulation, the virtual component, and directly determine the level of success each visitor achieves in a given scenario. All the traditional dinosaur exhibit elements are also present, including fossils, fossil reconstructions, tools of the paleontologist, and informational displays.

Eureka Exhibits' proprietary simulation software allows the visitor to assume the role of an individual creature, from one of a number of dinosaur species, in an accurately rendered Cretaceous environment based on one of two key fossil formations: Hell Creek, and Dinosaur Park. Visitors will participate in one of a number of carefully selected scenarios that explore the ways in which dinosaurs may have related to one another and to their environment.

Each scenario contains flora and fauna which are believed to have coexisted in a specific time and place in one of the two formations studied, and may be modified slightly to create versions that portray different interpretations of the fossil record. In fact, the flexibility afforded by the simulation allows for immediate and significant adaptation of exhibit content to reflect the most current scientific information.

What is the intended audience and what will they learn?
The primary intended audience for Be the Dinosaur™ is K-8 and their caregivers. All learning objectives have been developed in accordance with National Education Standards with the advice and oversight of our distinguished panel of advisors. A more complete list of targeted educational objectives is provided later in this document, but includes content from the subject areas of history, science, art, and technology. A broad range of play types and 21st century skills will be experienced by visitors to the exhibit.
